Man in his 70s dies after falling into slurry pit in Co Monaghan

Garda and HSA investigations are under way.

A PENSIONER HAS died on his farm after falling into a slurry pit in Monaghan.

The man, who was in his 70s, fell into the pit at around 3pm on a farm near Threemilehouse – around a 15 minute drive from Monaghan town.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident and pulled the man from the pit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí as well as the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the incident.

A garda spokesman said: “Gardaí are investigating the death of a man in his 70s following a farm accident in Threemilehouse, Co. Monaghan.

“The man fell into a slurry pit shortly after 3pm he was pulled out a short time later but was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The HSA has been notified.”
